In today's quote -

"I agree with everything you say, but I would attack to the death your right to say it."

Isn't it -
"I may not agree with everything you say, but I would attack to the death your right to say it." ?

Good question Erin.
Voltaire states it as, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Another version (http://www.tdstelme.net/~westin/fspeech.htm), attributed to "some Admiral" by a basic training drill sergeant, said, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend with my life your RIGHT to say it."

And yet another source , apparently from somebody at the University of Oregon, cites it as follows, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Some people are sardonically humorous, don't you think?
